Mercury Insurance company awarded top spot as inclusive employer

Insurance company - Inclusivity at the workplace

Newsweek has named the insurer on its 2024 America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity list

Newsweek has named the Mercury Insurance company as one of America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity for 2024.  Newsweek and partner Plant-A Insights, a market data research firm used their own selection methodology to choose the top businesses.

Several criteria were considered for the awarding of the title

Before the title was awarded to Mercury Insurance company, the employers being considered were judged based on their growth opportunities, competitive salaries and other factors, when compared with other similar employers. Additional factors such as non-discriminatory hiring practices, and work life balance were also a part of the mix.

The winning insurer was one of only 16 mid-size insurers (that is, that employ between 1,000 and 4,999 people) across the country and is one of only two serving California. Across the US, there are 5,929 insurers of all sizes.

Making diversity a priority for the insurance company

“We’re honored to be included on the 2024 Newsweek list,” said Mercury’s vice president and chief human capital officer Heidi Sullivan. “Diversity has been a foundational anchor point of Mercury’s corporate culture since our founding in 1962 and has always been a key component of our success, because we simply hire the best people.”

Being named at the top of the list gives recognition to Mercury’s dedication to upholding a workplace that respects and supports diversity. The insurer has long committed to maintaining a diverse workplace as it feels this will promote innovative solutions by giving everyone encouragement.

Validation of a long-held belief

“This award validates our belief that Mercury’s success stems from building a diverse and well-rounded team,” said Mercury CEO Gabriel Tirador. “Diversity creates a multitude of perspectives, unlocking a wealth of different approaches and ways of thinking. A diverse workforce leads to a stronger business.”

Newsweek recognizes companies by category, breaking them down by industry and size.  Large employers have over 5,000 employees, and mid-size employ between 1,000 and 4,999 people. Beyond the Mercury Insurance company, other businesses that were recognized on the 2024 Diversity list in other categories include Nike, Google, Mercedes-Benz, Microsoft and Walt Disney.
