Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection has issued its list of the nations safest for travelers
Travelers these days are commonly seeking fresh new experiences outside the typical resort visit and will likely be interested to find out what results a travel insurance company has published with regard to the safest places to go.
Interestingly, the US was not North America’s safest country
Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection (BHTP) recently published its yearly State of Travel Insurance report, ranking the world’s safest countries for visitors. There were 1,702 participants in the survey. The BHTP used the information collected from those participants in combination with data from the State Department’s travel safety ratings and the Global Peace Index.
It brought into consideration factors such as terrorism, health measures, safety for underrepresented groups, and weather emergencies.
Importantly, regardless of a country’s rating, there is no guarantee for vacationers that they will be safe when visiting a place.
The travel insurance company’s safest country for visitors in 2024
This year, the BHTP has named Canada as the safest country in the world for visitors, increasing its position on the list substantially, as the country was in sixth place in 2023. Among the reasons Canada was considered as safe as it was included its low population density and its cold weather.
Furthermore, BHTP also cautioned travelers to be aware of wildfires occurring in the country, particularly when it comes to the reduced air quality it can cause in the country’s cities, even when they’re nowhere near where the blazes are occurring.
Compared to other indices
The Better Life Index has rated Canada – the country BHTP has called the safest for visitors – as outperforming the average country in terms of education, health, jobs, income, life satisfaction, environmental quality, and social concerns.
Canadians themselves rate their satisfaction with living within their country as 7 out of a possible 10 points. This is higher than the average global rating of 6.7.
The BHTP’s safest countries for visitors this year
The travel insurance company named the following countries as the safest for visitors on vacation in 2024:
- Canada
- Switzerland
- Norway
- Ireland
- Netherlands
- United Kingdom
- Portugal
- Denmark
- Iceland
- Australia
Like Canada, the second country on the list, Switzerland, jumped up on the list when compared to last year. Last year, it was in 9th place, but 2024 see is as the number 2 safest spot.
