Mercury Insurance recognized as a top US workplace for mental wellbeing

Mercury Insurance wins Newsweek Award for Mental Wellbeing of its employees

Newsweek named the insurers among its Greatest Workplaces for Mental Wellbeing 2024

Mercury Insurance recently announced that it had been recognized by Newsweek as one of America’s Greatest Workplaces for Mental Wellbeing 2024.

This represents the publication’s first year for issuing the recognitions

Newsweek named Mercury Insurance in its inaugural year for the award.  Only 15 companies in non-health coverage were selected out of a total 750 businesses that received recognition in this awards process.

“We continue to be humbled and honored by the recognition our employee care and empowerment actions have received,” said the insurer’s chief human capital officer and vice president Heidi Lopez. “Our employees have access to a great number of resources and programs designed to promote positive mental well-being. The Mercury team is a community, and we will always strive to provide the best services and tools to support the mental and physical health of our employees.”

Mercury Insurance demonstrated substantial mental health support for its employees

A recent US leader survey of 250 participants conducted by Lyra showed that 94 percent of respondents considered mental health support benefits to be a “very important” factor for prospective employees.

The insurer has made a priority of offering its employees mental health benefits, recognizing it as being just as important as physical wellness.  As a result, it provides its employees with a spectrum of mental health benefits, ranging from a complete wellbeing program to counseling services, among others.

Combatting the stigma

As much as employers are slowly coming around to inclusiveness and support when it comes to the mental health struggles of its current and prospective employees, it remains a challenge.  Many people going through mental health struggles still fear being viewed as weak or judged as though they have done something wrong or aren’t trying hard enough.  Hiding such challenges – to the detriment of wellness and even potentially of the ability to thrive in a workplace – remains widespread.

“This award validates our belief that Mercury’s success stems from building a team that is both physically and mentally healthy,” said Lopez in a Mercury Insurance news release. “We believe that our employees are the foundation upon which Mercury is built, and their mental health is critically important to happiness and well-being.”
