The day provides an annual opportunity to show your staff how much they are appreciated.
Administrative Professionals Day is nearly here once again and insurance agents across the country are preparing to make the day a special one for their staff by treating them to something special in order to make sure that they know that they are appreciated.
This day occurs on the Wednesday of the last full week in April and it lands on the 23rd this year.
While many insurance agents choose to bring treats into the office, such as sweets or little gifts, others take the entire staff out to lunch, or shorten their day by an hour to show that all of the work that they do all year long has not gone unnoticed. What many people don’t know is that Administrative Professionals Day is actually the peak of the complete Administrative Professionals Week, which runs along the last complete week that occurs within April.
The offices of insurance agents and other industries in the U.S. and worldwide typically acknowledge this day.
The complete week and the day itself are widely observed in workplaces throughout the United States, but there are also many other countries around the world that take part in this opportunity to give staff members a much deserved pat on the back.
Many employers find that this is the perfect chance to be able to use a designated time to express appreciation for the many tasks that are accomplished by administrative professionals and to place the spotlight on the importance that their contributions make to the success of an organization and to the atmosphere of the workplace. This is also often a time to not only treat them to something enjoyable, but it can also be a great opportunity to offer them the chance to enhance their skills when related to their jobs, such as through a course, class, or other learning experience.
A little history…
National Administrative Professionals Day – also known as Admin Day, and formerly known as Secretaries Day – is almost here and in case you were wondering how this day came about, you may be surprised to know that it is much more than a “greeting card” day. In fact, it is a rich part of our history that goes all the way back to World War II.
At that time, there was a sudden rise in the need for skilled admin staff, especially in the U.S.In order to meet that need, the National Secretaries Association was created (now known as the International Association of Administrative Professionals, as of 1998).This helped to give the contribution of secretaries and admin team the recognition it deserved as a vital part of the economy.
U.S. Secretary of commerce, Charles Sawyer declared “National Secretaries Week” as an official celebration of these professionals in 1952.It was held from June 1 to June 7 with Wednesday (June 4) as National Secretaries Day – a date sponsored by the National Secretaries Association with the added support of various corporate groups.
All in all, in an agency, it’s no mystery to insurance agents that the entire admin team plays a vital role to the overall ability of the business to function and succeed. It is no wonder that this day is observed as broadly as it is, particularly within this industry.
