A new AHIP survey showed that employers feel it is important to recruitment and retention.

About 65 percent of US adults feel that their employer-sponsored health insurance gives them “financial peace of mind” according to the results of a new AHIP survey.

The survey was conducted as a component of a broader AHIP Coverage@Work campaign.

The survey was conducted by Locust Street Group and ran from April 17 to April 25 on behalf of AHIP. The purpose was to gather insights into the thoughts adults have across the US regarding employer-sponsored health insurance coverage. Its results were based on the responses of 1,000 Americans who have coverage through their employers.

It determined that among the respondents, 68 percent feel that their employer-sponsored plan is important for recruiting employees, and 77 percent feel that it is an important retention factor.

“Employer-provided coverage empowers over 180 million Americans to maintain and improve their health and helps provide financial security for themselves and their loved ones,” explained AHIP president and CEO Matt Eyles as quoted in a media release.

The majority of the survey respondents reported being satisfied with their employer-sponsored health insurance.

Among the respondents, 63 percent said that their current employer-sponsored coverage was satisfactory. Another 23 percent said that they were dissatisfied with their coverage, and 14 percent said that they were neither satisfied nor dissatisfied.

The leading factors that determined whether a person was satisfied included affordability, comprehensive coverage and provider choice.

Of the survey’s respondents, 68 percent said they preferred to receive their plan through their employer than they would through the government. Another 82 percent said that their plan provides coverage for preventive care. A further 76 percent said that it provides quality provider access, and 53 said that they were paying a reasonable amount for their coverage.

According to the health insurance survey results, the benefits the respondents cared most about were emergency care (62 percent), prescription drugs (58 percent), and preventive care (55 percent.

“From emergency to preventive care, consumers value and rely on the comprehensive coverage they receive through their employers,” said Locust Street Group partner Phillip Morris.
