There is a growing trend of specialized insurance and it has now added another branch to its offerings, with a new type of policy – which has been called SLICE – that has been created to provide coverage to pizza parlor owners.
The EPIC Programs Group, an insurance brokerage based in California, has announced that the “Safety, Loss, Control, Insurance, Coverage, Expertise” program they offer will now be speaking specifically to the liabilities faced by the owners of pizza parlors who have drivers that make deliveries.
The program is already open to business owners in forty states, and it involve a number of mandatory risk control and driver training measures. EPIC Programs Group has stated that this program’s underwriting was being provided by an insurer – which went unnamed – that has a specialty in automotive insurance coverage.
Though this may seem somewhat unconventional, insurance designed specifically for pizza restaurants may actually be an important form of protection within the food service industry.
Some of the most recognized insurance companies and insurance brokers around the globe – from Allianz SE’s Fireman’s fund to Willis Group and Progressive – have programs that address the specific needs of pizza businesses.
Industry websites have stated that the insurance policies held by the actual delivery drivers will rarely provide them with coverage when they are behind the wheel delivering products on behalf of their employers. This has required restaurants such as pizzerias which employ delivery drivers to need to purchase supplementary insurance in order to cover them.
