Health care reform

The days ahead of the anticipated decision announcement bring a great deal of speculation.

The United States Supreme Court is expected to announce its ruling on the health care reform later this week, which will mean that the law will either be upheld, partially overturned, or entirely overturned.

The overhaul by President Barack Obama is designed to extend medical coverage to 30 million more Americans.

It was also implemented with the intention of entirely reworking an industry that comprises nearly one fifth (18 percent) of the U.S. economy. The decision, already an important one in its own right, will also have an important role to play in the upcoming presidential election, which is now only four months away. This will also represent the first time that the Supreme Court has made a ruling on legislation bearing the signature of the president in the middle of his bid for reelection.

Most experts believe that the announcement of the decisions will occur on Thursday, June 28.

That said, it could occur as early as today or later on in the week. There are five decisions that the court has left to make, including one that has to do with an illegal immigration crackdown in Arizona. It is also thought that the announcements of the various rulings will be made over a period of two or three days, as opposed to all at once. It is believed that the ruling themselves were completed on June 25.

Any announcements of Supreme Court rulings are made from the bench, starting at 10 a.m. (ET). Once the Chief Justice John Roberts states that they will be issuing an opinion about the health care reform ruling, the employees of the court are permitted to begin distributing copies to reporters. This means that it will be news reports that are likely to make the first announcements to the country as a whole. As is the case during arguments, no live audio or video coverage of opinion announcements is permitted by the court. Following the issue of its ruling, it will post a copy of it onto the official website.
