Laura Helm has filed a lawsuit against the team that shared her sensitive data in the Usher case.

The case involving women accusing Usher of willingly spreading his herpes has returned to the headlines with a lawsuit against an insurance broker. This time, one of the accusers, Laura Helm, has sued three health insurance companies that allegedly shared her private medical records without her permission.

Helm’s lawsuit is against Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Louisiana, United Healthcare, and Golden Rule Insurance Company.

She claims to have filed her “private sensitive health information,” with an insurance broker representing the three insurers. Within Helm’s filing, she accuses the broker of having taken screenshots of her medical records, which were filed on July 31, 2017. She accused the broker of then sharing those screenshots with a blog. The blog, which remained unnamed at the time of the writing of this article, is also being sued.

Helm had recently dropped her case against Usher. She had been accusing the performer of giving her herpes, knowing that he had it but not sharing that information with her. Now, she is pursuing the insurance broker as well as the blog, suing the blog for defamation after it suggested that she had committed insurance fraud.

The insurance broker is being sued not for defamation but for having shared the medical information with the blog.

“With a one in six chance that any given partner could have genital herpes, [she] assumed the risk of contracting an STD each and every time she chose to have unprotected sex with a casual, consensual partner,” he said at the time.

Now, Helm has changed her focus in lawsuits against the insurance broker that allegedly shared her private information with a blog, and the blog that made accusations against her regarding the legitimacy of her insurance claims. It seems that even after a herpes case against Usher has been dropped, it will still remain in the insurance news headlines.
