The insurance company has published a number of tips for safely enjoying swimming throughout the summer.

Allstate Insurance has recently released a list of tips to help to help to spread awareness about the right actions to take to encourage pool safety so that swimmers will be able to enjoy the water sport that they love while minimizing both their health and their legal risks.

The tips that were assembled by Allstate were based on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

With the goal of using pool safety tips to avoid disasters that can lead to injury and liability insurance claims, Allstate has used information from the CPSC to be able to provide consumers what they need to know for a fun and safe summer. There are many different things that people can do to reduce the risk of a dangerous event and eliminate the chance of having to make an insurance claim.

Primary among pool safety tips was that children must always be supervised by an adult who is close by.

Children should never be left unattended in or around a pool, hot tub, or any other bodies of water. Moreover, when supervising the child, the adult should be actually watching the child (not texting, using a cell phone, texting, or otherwise distracted) and should be close enough to be able to take immediate action, as accidents can happen in water within the blink of an eye. Children should be taught basic water safety tips, but should be monitored, regardless. A phone should be kept close by when the pool is being used. Should a child go missing, the pool should be the first place that is checked.

It is also highly recommended that adults – particularly those who will be designated water watchers – learn how to swim, become strong swimmers, and learn how to perform CPR on both children and adults. Those skills should be regularly updated. Other basic lifesaving skills related to pool emergencies should also be learned and refreshed every season.

To reduce the risk of liability claims on homeowners insurance from preventable accidents, and to make sure that yousummer pool safety have everything you need in the case of an emergency, make sure that you have a proper fence enclosing the pool that adheres to local bylaws. Install a lockable safety cover over hot tubs. Make sure that lifesaving equipment such as floats, life rings, and a reaching pole are all easily accessible and available. They should not be locked in a shed while the pool is in use.
