Mayo Clinic insurance partnership forms with Medica to create new company

InsuranceBee and Hiscox launch insurance agent partner program

The two industry giants have joined forces to offer health plans on a national scale.

A new Mayo Clinic insurance venture has been announced alongside a partnership with Medica. Medica, the health insurance company based in Minnetonka, Minnesota, will come together with the health care giant to be able to sell plans throughout the United States.

The two companies will work together to bring health plans to consumers across the nation.

The new Mayo Clinic insurance venture with Medica will provide national plans. Policyholders will be able to access care from the Mayo Clinic in cases of serious illnesses and health conditions. That non-profit academic medical center has a strong reputation across the country and around the globe, for that matter. That said, for the majority of their medical care needs, they will be able to head to local health care centers, said a Post Bulletin report.

This is not the first time Medica and the Mayo Clinic have worked together. In fact, it’s not even the first time Medica has acted as an insurance network partner for the Mayo clinic. Last year, Medica purchased the Mayo Clinic’s M.M.S.I, Inc, a health services business. M.M.S.I., conducts its business as Mayo Clinic Health Solutions, will be transitioned into the tech platform at Medica next year.

Medica hopes that acting as the Mayo Clinic insurance provider will benefit them and their customers alike.

“This expanded relationship will benefit not only both organizations, but also the people in the communities we serve,” said John Naylor, the CEO and President at Medica. This statement was released as a part of a prepared announcement issued by the insurance company.

A statement from the Mayo Clinic showed that it was equally as enthusiastic over the new partnership with the insurer.

“Our relationship with Medica and future product offerings support a collaborative model of care delivery and Mayo Clinic insurance - Parternship - Handshake - Businesscoordination of services with better outcomes for patients with complex and serious illness,” said Dennis Dahlen, the chief financial officer at the Mayo Clinic. This was a part of a statement released following the announcement of the new Mayo Clinic insurance deal with Medica.
