Lloyd’s of London files suit against prominent organizations in Saudi Arabia holding them responsible for 9/11 attacks

Lloyd's of London Home OfficeThe attacks against the U.S. on September 11, 2001, have had a profound impact on nearly every aspect of life throughout the whole of the world. Terrorism is now a word that nearly everyone knows, a word that invokes varying degrees of discomfort for those that hear it. While many caught in the attacks have finally begun to put the broken pieces of their lives back together, Lloyd’s of London, one of the largest insurance companies in the world, has filed a federal lawsuit against those it believes are responsible for the event.

Lloyd’s lawsuit places blame with Saudi Arabia as well as a number of organizations and prominent individuals therein. The insurer insists that Saudi defendants, while not directly involved in the attacks, own responsibility for the actions of the people they represent. In all, the lawsuit charges a total of six organizations, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and three individuals, all of whom are linked to these organizations in some way, with being connected to the 9/11 attacks.

The insurer will seek to recover money that it paid out in the wake of the attacks. Lloyd’s issued settlements to those affected by the attacks on behalf of its liability insured’s. Many of these claims were valued at more than $215 million. The insurer will look to recover the entirety of their settlements as well as monetary compensation for the recovery effort after the attacks.
