The Allstate Foundation and Points of Light are taking a multi-city tour to help families to be ready.
No matter how much we don’t like to think about them, disasters do happen, and the Allstate insurance company has taken part in a tour of several cities, as its foundation works along with Points of Light to provide communities with education about catastrophes and how they can prepare themselves in the event that they actually occur.
As many disasters occur without any warning, it’s important for preparation to happen in advance.
This can help to make sure that everybody remains safe, and to reduce the chance of damage that could lead to auto, business, and homeowners insurance claims. The insurance company released a report that quoted data from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which showed that 85 percent of Americans have not adequately prepared themselves for the event of a possible disaster. It was this fact that inspired the Allstate Foundation and Points of Light to take on this emergency preparedness initiative.
The insurance company’s foundation and Points of Light are bringing the program to communities, in person.
Along with the education that Allstate is providing, it is also providing access to 10,000 disaster preparedness kits throughout its tour that began in May in Colorado and in Georgia. The kits are assembled during kit-building events, in which attendees create their own starter kits while they obtain information from various organization that are highly experienced in dealing with catastrophes, such as the Red Cross. Each of the kits contains a water bottle, rain poncho, dust mask, hand-crank flashlight, whistle, garbage bags, and hand sanitizer.
Furthermore, agency owners from the Allstate insurance company also attend the events in order to provide answers to the questions that community members may have about how they are covered against various forms of catastrophe and what they can do to reduce damage, prepare, and protect themselves against disasters.
According to the Allstate senior vice president of corporate responsibility, Vicky Dinges, “It doesn’t matter what disaster you might be faced with, you can be prepared with just a few simple actions.”
