Mercury has had 30 volunteers take the month long course for CERT certification.

Mercury Insurance has announced that thirty of its employees have trained over the span of a month in order to receive their CERT certification which will help them with homeowners insurance emergency disaster preparedness.

The volunteers were Mercury Homeowners Insurancefrom the Southern California offices of the insurer.

The insurer recognizes that the residents of California are at risk of a wide range of different forms of natural disasters, from floods to wildfires, and even earthquakes. The auto and homeowners insurance customers in that state, will now have access to 30 Mercury employees who have received their Community Emergency Response Team certification.

The hope is to be able to add greater value and assistance to auto and homeowners insurance customers.

According to the chief claims officer at Mercury, Joanna Moore, “We are in the business of helping people.” She added that “We take this responsibility very seriously and our team is now better prepared to assist the communities we serve.”

The employees who volunteered for the certification include those from the insurer’s Southern California offices in Brea, Anaheim, and Rancho Cucamonga. Their training includes search and rescue, fire safety, terrorism response, disaster psychology, medical operations (bleeding, first aid), and CERT organization.

The team leader and senior human resources business partner from Mercury, Dana Taylor, explained that “The CERT program provides our employees with the tools they will need to assist in nearly any disaster scenario.” Taylor also stated that the program is an important one, and that it provides a solid way in which the company can “demonstrate our commitment to the well-being of our employees, policyholders and the community.”

Mercury Insurance provides a range of auto and homeowners insurance products in California as well as twelve other states. It is considered to be a multiple line coverage organization that functions through an independent agent network. Other states in which it operates include Georgia, New Jersey, New York, Arizona, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, Illinois, Virginia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Nevada. The company is known for taking steps to help stand out within its marketplace, and this CERT certification is the latest of those efforts.
