Health insurance navigators to be acquired with the help of federal funds

Grants from the U.S. government have arrived in Florida this week. These grants are meant to help health insurance agencies acquire “navigators,” which will help consumers find the coverage they are interested in through the state’s health insurance exchange. While the state will not operate its own exchange, the marketplace is scheduled to begin open enrollment on October 1 of this year, with policies sold through the exchange going active on January 1, 2014.

Navigators to guide consumers to effective policies

Health insurance navigators are meant to provide guidance to consumers that are not well versed in the various aspects of the insurance sector. Navigators exist as part of the Affordable Care Act and can only be associated with non-profit organizations without any ties to the insurance industry at large. With the help of these navigators, consumers are expected to find health insurancenr68kpthnl6B8D87GB687E9D8AA coverage that meets their needs and these navigators may also be able to help consumers access federal subsidies they may be eligible for if they cannot afford coverage on their own.

Florida Health Insurance Rates$67 billion issued throughout the US to help states acquire navigators

The Department of Health and Human Services has issued approximately $67 billion throughout the country that will help states acquire health insurance navigators. Nearly $8 billion has been allocated to Florida. Agencies like the Primary Care Access Network, which manages health clinics throughout much of Central Florida, will use this money to pay and equip navigators. This particular agency has received $590,000 in grants that will support 12 health insurance navigators.

Funds will also help Florida market its health insurance exchange

The funds will not only assist Florida in acquiring health insurance navigators, of course, as they will also be used to help market the services of the state’s health insurance exchange. While the exchange is expected to provide thousands of people with access to affordable coverage, many people are unaware that the exchange is meant to do this. Fewer still are aware that the federal government is offering subsidies to help offset the cost of health insurance coverage purchased through the exchange.
