New mobile commerce features for its app.

GEICO has just released the latest batch of brand new insurance technology features for its mobile commerce app, which were developed and implemented based on feedback provided by customers.

The new features make the application easier and more convenient for consumers and policyholders to use.

They are meant to make it easier for consumers to shop for a policy and current customers can better understand their coverage. Moreover, both current and prospective customers will have access to useful coverage tips and information.

According to the assistant vice president of information technology at GEICO, Steve Smith, the application “continues to evolve to meet the current needs of our customers.” He added that “We’ve focused on expanding the self- service features of the app, which will offer added convenience and a better customer experience for the user.”

Among the primary highlights is the new scanning feature for the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

This allows a smartphone to simply scan the sticker on the vehicle’s window in order to be able to generate a quote for coverage. There is also a new feature that is password protected so that policyholders can gain access to information about their own unique coverage.

There are also more self service features to GEICO’s mobile commerce application. It is now possible for customers to use their smartphones or tablets to view the discounts and coverages that they have on their vehicles, change the date or time of a claims appointment, print or email their insurance ID cards, or view their payment schedules.

The new version of the app is already downloadable for iOS devices at the Apple iTunes Store. This includes a version compatible with iPhones as well as for iPads. The latter version now allows users to see their billing and policy documents. For other devices, there is also an Android and Windows Phone 7 compatible app.

GEICO, which stands for Government Employees Insurance Company, is a part of Berkshire Hathaway, and is currently the third largest company in the U.S. providing individual vehicle insurance. It currently handles approximately 11 million policies and is often associated with implementing the latest insurance technology.
