They aim is to help to assuage one of the leading concerns of device buyers in the country.

According to Kannan Gopalakrishnan, the director of retail at Nokia India, “Through this initiative, our effort is to address one of the major concern of mobile phone buyers and enhance their buying experience with us. Insurance cover will be provided on purchase of new Nokia mobile phones from today onwards, initially across 10 cities.”

The cell phone insurance will be available for all of the Nokia smartphones sold through branded stores.

The Nokia branded stores will be the main sellers of this cell phone insurance. The initial launch has started in Delhi and throughout the National Capital Region, as well as in Mumbai, Jaipur, Pune, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Cochin, and Bengaluru. The premiums for the consumers who purchase this coverage will be either 1.25 percent of the device cost or Rs 50, whichever is higher. The coverage must be purchased at the same time as the device.

According to Gopalakrishnan, the cell phone insurance will cover mobile devices that have been lost through burglary, theft, riots, or malicious acts, that are stolen from unattended or locked buildings, or that are taken during any act of violence. He added that payments will be made to the policyholders within 5 days of having made the claim.

A claim on the cell phone insurance policy will require that the customer submits a police report number, and that the service provider be advised of the incident and provides confirmation of that so that it can be submitted with the claim. Moreover, the initial claim needs to be made within 48 hours of the loss of the device.

The general manager of New India Assurance, Segar Sampathkumar, explained their side of the cell phone insurance service by saying that “We have surveyor who will verify the claim after which amount will be paid to customer.”
