The suit was settled on Friday in a federal court without the actor’s knowledge, allege lawyers.

A Bill Cosby defamation lawsuit filed by seven women against the actor was settled in federal court on Friday. According to the actor’s lawyers, this case was settled without Cosby’s knowledge. The lawyers accused A.I.G. of having resolved the case on the entertainer’s behalf without his knowing of the decisions made.

The settlement was made on Friday in U.S. District Court in Massachusetts by the women’s attorney.

The court documents for the Bill Cosby defamation lawsuit were filed on Friday in the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts by the lawyer representing the seven women, Joseph Cammarata. Those documents described an agreement reached between Cosby and each of the seven women. They stated that a settlement had been made and “each plaintiff is satisfied with the settlement.” That said, the specific terms of the agreement were held under seal and were not made available to the public.

However, Cosby’s lawyers made posts over their social media denying the validity of the settlement. They indicated that the entertainer was not made aware of any agreements and that he did not settle with anyone. They specifically stated that the actor would not be paying any amount to anyone based on the settlements which were made without his knowledge.

The lawyers stated that the Bill Cosby defamation lawsuit was settled by AIG without his knowledge.

The lawyers posted that: “Mr. Cosby did not settle any cases with anyone. He is not paying anything to anyone, and he is still pursuing his counterclaims. AIG decided to settle these cases, without the knowledge, permission and/or consent of Mr. Cosby,” in one of the posts. The post made reference to American International Group, Cosby’s insurance company.

“Mr. Cosby vehemently denies the allegations brought against him in these defamation suits and he maintains his innocence,” said another one of the lawyers’ posts.

The lawsuit itself was the outcome of a number of allegations made against Cosby by seven women. They allege that he sexually abused them. These alleged incidents occurred outside the statute of limitations for this type of crime. However, the women sued the actor for having defamed them by falsely referring to them as liars, said a UPI report.

The Bill Cosby defamation lawsuit is only one of several legal problems heaped on the actor’s shoulders. He is currently six months into serving a three- to ten-year prison sentence.
